‘Flat Screen’ as a monetary unit
This year I’ve noticed, more than in the past, the incredible hype and frenzy surrounding flat screen television technology .
It probably has much to do with living in Anchorage where everywhere you turn there are stacks of large boxes and wildly colored POW! stickers generally in the $1600+/- range.
So, it all started this year for me when Alaska dispensed the Permanent Fund Dividend, and there were flat screens seemingly flying out of stores. Actually all over town stores would front you the exact amount of $1654 prior to the checks going out. I went to Best Buy just to watch the spectacle, and when removed from it all, it was very amusing.
As far as I can tell, this activity has reached a crescendo up to this weekend in preparation one of the most widely watched events in America, The Super Bowl.
Before I go on, just think how many of these damned things (In the interest of disclosure I’ve owned one for 5 years) have been sold! Thousands!
So, as it turns out, our cable provider (GCI) has a dispute with the channel providing the feed. As a result, every cable customer in the ENTIRE city and neighboring municipalities will not be able to see the game in HiDef , as intended.
In order to experience the HiDef feed, the television station has suggested you go to Radio Shack and purchase a set of rabbit ears .
